True IPCE

For IPCE measurements, the CIMPS system can be equipped with the CIMPS-PCS extension, including a tunable light source (TLS). The TLS makes use of an active feedback loop to ensure accurate light illumination. Equipped with up to 29 LEDs and a monochromator, the TLS provides a wavelength resolution down to 1 nm in the visible light range.

The system measures the IPCE using sine-wave modulation of the light source, allowing for the measurement of true IPCE.

The CIMPS system, extended with CIMPS-PCS, can also be used for standard electrochemical and photoelectrochemical techniques which are possible with the CIMPS system.

Tuneable light source

The TLS contains up to 25 or 29 LEDs depending upon the TLS type (without or with UV extension). The TLS also contains a white background light which may be used for the solar cells or photoelectrode with high light intensity threshold for photocurrents. The effect of the constant white background light is eliminated from the IPCE results.

Accessories

Photoelectrochemical measurements are carried out in a controlled light environment. For this purpose, Zahner designed a light exclusion box (LEB). This LEB can accommodate the PECC cells and the TLS. The LEB also works as a Faraday cage and diminish artefacts for low current measurements.
